the girls who kicked the hornet’s nest

51g2T7egeFL._SL500_AA300_ I'm not even sure how I stumbled on the first book of the trilogy, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.  I absolutely loved the book.  A page turner.  I have been turning the pages until yesterday afternoon when I  finished the final book, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest.

There has been a lot written about the author Steig Larson who died before even seeing the incredible success his books have seen.  Although a journalist, these books were his first attempt at being an author.  Pretty damn good.

What I loved about the books is a variety of things.  A mystery thriller which is something I rarely read but these books just pulled me in.  Great character development with intricate relationships.  I particularly loved how Larson wrote about the present world using the Internet, hackers, iPhones and current technologies.  Even in his last book he wrote about the dying newspaper world. How the readership is going down and the difficulty of being profitable.  Characters that could easily be on the front page of the New York Times.  Clever.

If you haven't read any of the books, I highly recommend picking up all 3.  Sit by the beach, by the pool or whatever you do to relax this summer and dig in.  All 3 are great reads.
