Autobiography of a Delicatessen; Katzs

51pEWzsUhhL._SY344_BO1,204,203,200_At least once a year since I have lived in NYC I make a pit stop at Katzs.  It is the ultimate delicatessen.  After all I grew up on this kind of food.  Pastrami, salami, roast beef, brisket, hot dogs, matzoh ball soup, rye bread, cole slaw, pickles.

Katzs is an American institution. This year marks the 125th year anniversary.  Even the way the restaurant works.  You get your ticket that you use for the different stations to order your food.  There is an area where there is waitress service or with the ticket you can just pick up your food and take a seat.

Our friend Glen Horowitz is involved with the publishing of this book.  It is a book worth buying.  Photos take up the majority of the book.  The customers, the owners, the food.  I love it.

If you have never been to Katzs go.  There is nothing else like it.  125 years is impressive.  I might have to take a journey down there sooner than later.  I love their pastrami sandwich.  Come to think of their hot dogs are pretty top too.

Been going there since I was a kid. My grandfather used to take me.My other favorite place in this genre is of course Russ & Daughters. I Citi Bike over and get my lox there when the need strikes.BTW–LA has its own versions, names escaping me at the moment.

I know the ones in Los Angeles. Names are escaping me too but have been several times.

As someone who grew up here and had a company in West Hollywood/Beverly Hills for a bit, Palm trees aside, there are strong cultural connections.
