What does it mean to do it like a girl?

This video is fantastic.  It was put on on Wifey.tv yesterday.  Another powerful video that forces us to think about what it means to do it like a girl?

nice portfolio. how does the process work on pitching to this group?

if they meet our investment criteria (http://www.hydeparkangels.c…, they click the link and apply. It’s $45. We found even the low fee stops a lot of junk from coming through. Then we have a student associate contact the company, and present to the screening committee. We also have “tiger teams” that try and get out in front of deals. If there are enough people that like the deal around, we present to a focused group of 20-30 investors. We have four groups of them that leverage industries that are strong in Chicago (healthcare, fin tech/B2B, digital, and consumer products). If the small group likes them, then we try and schedule them to pitch at a large meeting with all 115 of our angels. If the group likes it we try and do a deal. Our wheelhouse is 250k-$1M depending on the deal.

This is so powerful. I have two nieces who are 9 + 11 and I hope they never feel humiliated to do something “like a girl.” Thank you for sharing!

It’s hard to feel so heartbroken by a phrase that is so omnipresent in our culture. But it’s powerful to know that we finally have the tool available to us as women and girls, the internet, to share with each other that we don’t have to put up with this bias against half of humanity anymore.

      so true.

Why should how our actions in sports matter anyway? I do think girls need to call people on this. That’s the most empowering thing we can encourage them to do.

Thanks for the find – will share. You may find this talk equally powerful (albeit TED length), especially in light w/ recent college campus exposures. Related but taking a more serious posture – http://www.ted.com/talks/ja
