Polo Bar

imgres-1It wasn’t on the top of my list but my friend made a reservation there for a girl’s night so uptown I went.

images-2The Polo Bar is Ralph Lauren’s restaurant around the corner, in the same building, as his 5th Avenue store.  It is super clubby and definitely uptown.  It is the new 21 Club.

polobarWe started at the bar.  Great place to have a drink but you better be on the evening list of reservations.  No stopping by for a drink.  The guy in the photo above stands outside or inside the door with a list and if you are not on it, you can’t come in.  These two men looked pretty respectable to me but they had to go elsewhere for their evening cocktail.  Ridiculous?  Perhaps but certainly keeps the place not crowded.

popoverThe menu reads comfort and classic.  They give you a steaming hot caramelized onion popover to start.  Pretty damn good.

pigsinablanketWe split everything.  Pigs in the blanket might be one of my all time favorite things.

oystersExcellent oysters.

choppedsaladChopped salad to split.  Not much to talk about here.  Quite bland.

steakOne rib-eye that we split between the three of us.  Perfectly cooked and delicious.

saucesWe did not realize that when we asked to taste all three sauces on the side that they would charge us for each of them.

friesThe fries were top.

asparagusRoasted asparagus for a side.  Also quite bland.

Brussels were bland too.brussels

chocolatecakeWe did go for a dessert.  All the desserts are classic.  Chocolate layer cake with whipped cream on the side.  Nicely done.

We had a great time.  We sat in the front so our people watching was over the top.  The bar is pretty sweet.  Not sure it will be easy to get my name on the list and not sure how I feel about that but I would return.  The food is fine not great but somehow it works.

Hmm…pretty traditional, to say the least. If you had showed me pics of the food, I would have sworn we were in the 80’s 🙂
