The first ski vacation of the year

Side_view_little_nell_copyFred was invited out to Aspen for business this past week.  How could the rest of the family not take advantage of meeting him out there this past weekend?  I have to admit, it is a long way to go for a 3 day weekend.  It isn’t so much the time change or even the length of the flight, it is merely the odds of getting in or out without delays.  Unfortunately, we got socked on both ends.

We stayed at Little Nell.  Little Nell is a total high end hotel in Aspen.  You can’t beat the location.  More important, the service at Little Nell is so superior to any  hotel we have ever stayed in.  The people couldn’t be nicer.  They go out of your way to make your stay seamless from the ski concierge picking up your skis, getting them to where they need to be, warming the boots for the next day, getting reservations for you…you  name it.  The attitude is warm, friendly and charming.  They truly want to make you happy.  It is an absolute pleasure to stay there.  The beds are pretty sweet too.

We went cat skiing.  Wow.  What an experience.  Cutting through pure powder that is untouched is like magic.  A few things to keep in mind.  You don’t have to be an expert skier but you should pretty much be an expert boarder.  It is thick and if you fall with a board, it is an absolute bear.  I actually went skiing instead of boarding for the day.  My kids all boarded.  Each one had a difficult time at the beginning.  Jessica got it.  Josh hung in there but Emily was too cautious and it caused lots of time in the snow.  We will definitely go again but lessons learned.
