Ruby’s on Mulberry

Ruby’s is a tiny restaurant on Mulberry.  The menu is inspired from Australia.  Simple good food with an interesting combo of flavors.  I met Fred, Jess and Em there for lunch on Saturday.  I had spent the morning looking at an artist and had already eaten so I just had a few tastes.

Tiny spot.  Maybe 25 people can fit there at most.  Some tables are communal.  The menu is simple and the food is excellent.  Burgers, salads, etc.  The girls had a fantastic salad with baby spinach, goat cheese, roasted pumpkin, roasted pine nuts and a balsamic dressing.  Fred went with the shrimp salad.  Poached shrimp, sliced avocado, micro greens, veggies and a citrus dressing.  The coffee was really rich and tasty.  The tables turn quick.  But most important to note, this is the hippest crowd I have ever seen.  Everyone has the hipster look down from the clothes to the hair to the all over appearance of cool.  I believe I was out of my element but am happy to go back.

This is exactly where you want to be hanging if you are part of the 20 year old crowd in NYC.  Great food and good people watching.  Needless to say, the girls chose the spot.  Nice call.  BTW, cash only.
