Farm to Table

I love cooking, baking, restaurants, trends in food and so it is no surprise that I am a huge fan of of the farm to table movement that has been growing the last few years.  A new generation of farmers going back to the land growing food that is healthy and good for us vs the processed mass produced food we buy in grocery stores.  If you have ever had a fresh egg that was laid yesterday for breakfast, you would know exactly what I mean.  The taste of that egg vs one that you bought at the grocery store is not even in the same taste family.

I rarely post about events that I am involved with but this is a very cool idea.  Liz Neumark asked me to co-chair this (I am one of many).  It is called Farm to Table and the event takes place at Sothebys where there is a live auction around heirloom vegetables.  A unique way to celebrate and create awareness around sustainable food from local farmers that are providing the farm to table experience around the area. The event takes place on September 27th and you can buy your tickets here.

Tracey Jackson posted this video on her blog about an upcoming documentary called Farmegeddon.  After viewing this clip, I am looking forward to seeing the full film.  Watching the clip made me even more excited about participating in the Farm to Table event.

sounds great. We need independent farmers. I had no idea that Monsanto had developed a sugar beet that is called roundup ready.  Roundup is a chemical weed killer and if you spray it on your lawn it will kill the weeds plus the grass.  A round up ready beet is a sugar beet where you can spray the fields with round up while the beets are growing and the beets will not wither and die.Sounds yummy.  Our granulated sugar is sprayed with roundup before it is processed? Round up’s parent I think was agent orange. My point-we need farm to table food.

Any film featuring Joel Salatin of Polyface Farms, I’m in 100%.  Thanks for sharing that, I’m excited to see the finished product.Farm to Table sounds like a great program, one of my favorite spots in Boston, Mike & Patty’s, starting bringing in Polyface-style eggs and I couldn’t be happier. If you happen to come to Boston, it’s a place you should definitely check out.
