Pulse Art Fair, NYC
Lots of art in NY this past weekend. I stopped by Pulse before going out to dinner on Friday night. The show was really good. Not a lot of galleries but just enough so that it wasn’t too tight. A nice mix.
Here are my highlights. Stephen Nelson at Man & Eve from London. There was just something about this piece I liked. He usually does mostly sculpture but the smattering of color through out just drew me in.
Kind of loved this horse from the Torch gallery in Amsterdam
I love this kind of work. Not sure where I would put it but I love the sculpture and the humor in this. This is called Brighton Beach Bench by Will Kurtz, Mike Weiss Gallery NYC.
Sorry I did not buy a Vik Muniz piece years ago when the prices were lower. His work is unique and brilliant. Rena Branstan Gallery, San Francisco
This made me laugh. I have seen the work from David Kramer before and have been drawn to the humor. Freight + Volume, NYC.
I might have to go back and get this piece. When I was a kid I read the Lonely Doll books by Dare Wright. I loved them. Then I read the autobiography on Dare Wright a few years ago and I had a totally different take on Edith and the Bear. Not surprising. Fred Torres Collaboration NYC.
I saw something similar to this when I was in Cape Town this past October. Small butterflies pinned up and then formed into a globe Different. Paul Villinski is the artist showing at Morgan Lehman, NYC.
These were so wacky that I had to take a picture. Embroidered xray by Matthew Cox at Pentimenti.
I saw this artists work at the Pier a month ago. Chiharu Shiota. This is from Galeria Nieves Fernandez in Madrid. I had seen this work from a gallery out of Paris.
Small and different than the bigger Freize fair. I am glad I swung by. I tried to get to NADA but never got there over the weekend. Alas…but there is always next time.
