Womens Entrepreneur Festival 2013
I have not had time to write a post reflecting on the event but will. I need a few days to reflect. I do know that there is nothing else like it.
If you were not able to attend please watch the live stream. There is some great content in the conversations that took place all day and on the panels. Liz Neumarks opening remarks are moving and really insightful for any entrepreneur. Nancy Hechinger (my co-founder of the festival) also gave a great talk on Tuesday night.
Here is my opening remarks that in many ways set the tone for the day.

Thank you Joanne for championing women entrepreneurs and for nurturing and supporting us a group. I was at the festival and it was a powerful and inspiring event. To hear first hand what so many have achieved in all fields while balancing and juggling multiple priorities was very encouraging. Most important the tone, mood and atmosphere of the event led to many honest and supportive conversations with direct and practical advise. And it was fun! Thank you again for making it possible.
Fantastic event with amazing panelists and attendees! I’ll be working off the buzz for days :)So glad it was LiveStreamed so that I can catch the panels I didn’t attend. And, I really appreciated the lunch activity. That’s a keeper (or something like it). Finally, can we always have it in that room? The view was fantastic!
the room was fantastic. we will definitely stick with that.
Congrats to you, Nancy and Midori. Great content, great community, well-structured and inspiring. I learned so much!
I *love* how you set up the room and thought about the dynamics ahead. It was a very unique conference and you ladies did a great job with the attention to details.I got a chance to reflect on what was so special about the experience on my blog: http://uxceo.com/ Hopefully that gives you helpful insight and I’d love to hear your thoughts too!As I mentioned, the lunch was my favorite part since it served as support group of other ambitious females at the same stage. I love to find other female founders my age going through the same challenges, so keep that idea!
I really enjoyed your speech. You are a very positive person. Is there a way to be on a mailing list for next year? For some reason, I missed any mention of this prior to it actually happening.
Great talk. Really an inspiration. I want to attend next year.
you would LOVE!
Joanne, you are totally the Real Deal!
I saved this to watch when I could really focus – great speech! I wish I had been there! Its funny – I have those doubts you mentioned on the one hand (esp the Harvard MBA!), but deep down I also feel like I can do ANYTHING. I’m not always certain how I am going to pull things off, but somehow, by hook or by crook, I make it happen. Given what you’ve accomplished in your life, I’d guess you feel similarly. As I embark on my first (non-lifestyle) entrepreneurial gig, I like to believe this trait is what is going to enable me to deal with the uncertainties and make my business a huge success! Your speech just crystallized all of this for me, so thank you!I also checked out Meryl Streep’s intro for HC – amazing that MS does not think she is the real deal! Made me think of Nicholas Kristof’s Op-Ed in today’s NYT on a conversation he had with Sheryl Sandberg at Davos about women and success (& her new book). I sent it to all my friends with daughters.http://www.nytimes.com/2013…
The event was really inspiring Joanne. Thanks! Meeting other women at different stages with their businesses and learning from their experience was amazing. Thanks for creating a common platform for us all to connect and stay connected.
