On Independence Day I woke up this morning to see chaos in many others parts of the world on the front page of the NYTimes.  Although our country is certainly not a perfect democracy, it is ours and we have freedom and a balance of powers where many others do not. 

As a young child my father used to say, as he traveled all over the world, we are incredibly lucky to live in the United States.  He is right.  Today is a day to reflect on that.
