Cronut Craze

Cronutbakery
There is something fascinating about the cronut craze.  Whenever we travel and see a food line, I always feel the need to get in on it.  Waiting for hours is not in my vocabulary anymore but you have to love that people are so food obsessed that their desire to taste the latest and greatest, go to the latest and greatest restaurant, etc is very much a sign of the times.   Just a side note, my sophomore year I waited 24 hours in line to get a Peoples Express ticket going from Boston to NYC for $9.

Cronutline
Had to get in on the craze and taste the cronut.  Admittingly I pulled a few strings so I did not have to stand in the long line.

Cronutmaker
There are a few different lines.  One for other items and coffee.  BTW, there are plenty of delicious items at Dominique Ansel besides the coveted cronut.  There is the outdoor line and the indoor line for the cronut.  If anything there are people everywhere and the bakery is very long and narrow.  I give huge kudos to the staff who seems to be enjoying the insanity.

Cronutbox
Here is our box.  Needless to say we were very psyched.

Cronuts
Our beautiful cronuts.  This months flavor is coconut cream with a sugar/cinnamon topping.  They are pretty delicious.  Light and airy.

Cronutbite
Just the right amount of filling.  Sweet but not too sweet.

Cronutboxempty
Not a crumb left.  MIght have to return for the flavor next month.

I am scared to try them, for fear that they will be just another baked good I will crave!

you can’t crave it unless you have a desire to stand in line for hours on end. it is delicious but one of those treats that you can only do on a rare occasion. the line is just a killer!

This guy I work with was claiming the cronut hysteria was all media hype, but these pictures disprove it. Besides, I heard like a billion people talking about them everywhere. It reminds me of the Magnolia Bakery lines when SATC featured them.I wouldn’t wait in line, but one day, I hope to try one! They seem very decadent.

the cronut is SO much better than the cupcake at magnolia bakery. the best thing, imho, at magnolia is the banana pudding.

Agreed on the banana pudding. I had a recipe to make it at one point, and it was basically all cream. How can it not be good?!

I need to get connections like you’ve got! Looks great but I wouldn’t wait in line for it either…perhaps I can just make really good friends with someone near the front of the line (who can buy me a few extras on their turn?) 😉

Are they really so much more fantastic than any other great baked good? I have friends who have been able to try them, but I refuse to wait in line. They don’t even seem like my type of pastry.

it is like a french crueller with cream. it is definitely more interesting than a regular donut.

you don’t have to wait in line in Chicago. My daughter worked for a family all summer in Michigan, came home and forgot to go. Went back to college. She will have something to look forward to at Thanksgiving.Best donuts in the world are at World’s Best Donuts in Grand Marais, MN. http://worldsbestdonutsmn.com/

The food looks great. However, the military cured me of waiting in line for food. I would rather skip a meal than wait.
