JAR, Joel A. Rosenthal

I had heard from more than a handful of people about the JAR exhibit.  It just opened at the MET and runs until March 9th.

It is amazing.  I am so glad we went.  Rosenthal has been making jewelry for over 35 years in Paris under the name JAR.  This is the first retrospective of his work.  There are 395 pieces.  The jewelry surpasses any jewelry I have ever seen.  The details, the colors, the intricacy is jaw dropping.

We literally went thru the exhibit and looked, ogled and talked about each piece.  Get up to the MET.  One of the most unique exhibits I have seen in a very long time.

I just read about this in the FT and am so glad our trip to NYC is coinciding, this is now high up on our ‘to do’ list! Glad you had a great time there – and Happy Thanksgiving for yesterday.

oh! Gotham Gal you are so lucky to live in N.YI have my volume 1 and 2 of the JAR jewelry books.I have adored and admired JAR jewelry for many years. The colors, the whimsy and the workmanship. just fantastic.I , truly, believe that JAR is the 20th-21st century version of what was the 19th century house of Faberge.I wish I could visit the exhibit but cannot travel this year from Boston. At least we have Yvonne Markowitz at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. She puts on some very fine and exciting exhibits for us.

I know you love the jewelry. It is hard not to be mesmerized by each of the pieces in the exhibit.
