Summer has just begun with Amber Waves Farm
Every year we do a CSA (community supported agricultural) with Amber Waves Farm. I not only enjoy getting the local wares but enjoy supporting the local farm. The two women behind it are impressive and it has been fun to watch them become better farmers every year.
I was there this morning at the crack of dawn picking up the first box of the season. This year they are adding cheese and fruit. Fruit starts next week. I got a loaf of bread and a hunk of cheddar cheese.
The newest addition is the chicken coop. You have to get there early to get the just hatched eggs. Warm in your hand. Honestly the best treat of the weekend.

My wife headed to a farm today in Algonquin, IL. Love the local farm movement, and wish that the Feds would cut regulation on it.
The regulation is truly heavy handed.
Yes it’s pretty amazing. We have done a lot of research on it-she wants to buy a farm. Just getting stuff across state borders is a minefield. When you look at things that are really avant garde like raw milk production-the state, feds, and industrial farm companies really come after you and basically bankrupt these poor people into submission.
big company lobbyists.
There’s nothing better than being locavores.
There is a close runner up – local production. We’ve strived to make our games not just Made in USA but Made in NYC, as well as eco/friendly in materials. We also partner with trees.org to donate a tree for every game sold. While it’s not food, on which locavore is awesome (especially from one’s own garden or terrace), local production keeps communities strong, and I see a big parallel.
agree.
We belong to a CSA that delivers to Manhattan (starts in 2 weeks). I absolutely love the feeling of supporting farmers– and helping them deliver Nature’s bounty. Such hard work, but all done with love. It also challenges us to cook and eat veggies that we might never have tried if not for our farmers.
it absolutely challenges you to eat what it is your box!
