Marc Kushner, Architizer Entrepreneur @TED

Marc did this talk awhile ago but I finally was able to grab the code and put it on my blog.

I am a huge fan of Marc and I believe that I was the first dollar in his company Architizer except of course his family.

This is a powerful talk — I was glued to my iPad. To me, this is just another aspect of the future unfolding. This major shift in architecture had to happen at some point, but what is fascinating is how it is happening: the enabler was social media. We live in exiting times!

I couldn’t agree more. It is all about technology as the enabler.

Refreshing… optimistic… may be too optimistic (but that’s TED after all).BTW, the first wave of mediatization of architecture happened through architectural magazines and architectural photography – but was still mostly confined within the profession and small fraction of the population (high culture). I’ve done some PhD work exactly on this thesis – architectural magazines as a form of professional ideology. And now this thesis (from Marc) – Instagram (social media) as a form of “professional” ideology – instant, democratic, wide open to anyone. Good stuff to think about…One note though – architects better start calling themselves designers. The word “architect” seems odd and meaningless in a world mediated through screens and snapshots.

i like that. designers vs architects.
