BBQ sauce

bbqMy friend brought us over a bottle of homemade BBQ sauce.  It was delicious.  Had to make it myself.  So insanely easy and well worth it.  This could be my new sauce vs my standard Bone Suckin’ Sauce.  It came from her son who pulled it off the Food Network show called The Neelys.

2 cups ketchup
1 cup water
1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
5 tablespoons light brown sugar
5 tablespoons sugar
1/2 tablespoon fresh ground black pepper
1/2 tablespoon onion powder
1/2 tablespoon ground mustard
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

n a medium saucepan, combine all ingredients. Bring mixture to a boil, reduce heat to simmer. Cook uncovered, stirring frequently, for 1 hour 15 minutes.

I doubled the recipe and got these two containers above.  Really tasty!

This is classic Memphis bbq sauce. I inherited the same recipe from my mom, a Memphian, Yum!

I’m probably not the person to ask — been a vegetarian since age 12 🙂

Looks more sweet than tangy? Our go-to sauce has always been from Phil’s. Tangy, more thin than thick. Good even on veggies. https://philsbbq.net/mercha

Pretty close to my usual recipe, I just add a little heat with cayenne, aleppo pepper, and the spicy vinegar from a jar of jalapeños!

Add in some chile pepper and some chocolate powder. I also use smoked paprika.
