Cauliflower steaks

cauliflowerThe recipe needed a little bit of doctoring but it is beautiful and good.

I made it for 6 so I needed 3 heads of cauliflower.

Slice the head down the middle and then on the slice straight down on each side to create a steak.  I tried to get more out steaks but one is about all that comes out.

Take the rest of the cauliflower and chop into small pieces for the sauce.

In a sauce pan put 3 cups of chopped cauliflower, 1 1/2 cups water, 1 cup milk, salt and pepper to taste.  Bring to boil for about ten minutes or until the cauliflower is soft.

Strain and keep the liquid.  Take the cauliflower and puree in a blender or Cuisinart and add a little bit of the liquid if needed for thickness of the sauce.

In a deep frying pan cover with vegetable oil.  Brown the cauliflower steaks in the pan and then put on a baking tray and roast at 350 until fully browned.

I put the sauce on a place and then put the steaks on top and served.

It is a little different but my guess is you get better at this the more you do it.

This could have been called Cauliflower on Cauliflower, or “Cauliflower Two Ways” as they like to name things in fancy restaurants. But I like it.

I make cauliflower steaks all the time.. But I put the “steaks” on a baking sheet with a little olive oil, salt & pepper… Oven is 425 the cauliflower browns ( I turn them over when the top is golden) The cauliflower tends to caramelize giving it great flavor!! Just a quick & easy go to recipe!!

I do the same as you and bake to golden brown. You may want to try topping the cauliflower steak like you would bruschetta. Fresh tomato, onion, and basil compliment it well.

Cauliflower is a wonder vegetable of course–a lot of anti cancer qualities (need to look up the name of this) and central to Chinese medicinal healing centering around the lungs. And delicious to boot!
