Dinner with Michael White

At the annual fundraiser for Sylvia Center, an organization that that focuses on inspiring children to be healthy eaters in underserved communities, we bid on and won a meal with Michael White who would come to our home and made us dinner.  What an incredible treat.

I did not capture the beauty of the first course of canapes but caught this just as we were sitting down.  Simple yet so good.  Buratta, lobster, basil oil and an eggplant al funghetto.  Tastes like summer.

Our first course was a crudo antipasto.  Long Island fluke with green strawberries, basil and lemon. Big eye tuna, oyster crema and a crispy artichoke on top.  Pacific Jack Mackerel with rhubarb and green almonds.   Each big was so good.  A combination of fresh fish and flavors that work perfectly with the crudo.

Fusilli with Octopus and Bone Marrow is White’s signature dish at Marea.  It is so rich and insanely good.

Roasted halibut with fava beans, chanterelles and asparagus on the side.

Strawberry meringue, yogurt cream, cashew crunch and strawberry balsamic sorbet.  Wow!

Here is what is inside.

Just when we thought it was over we got these chocolate disc cookies with a tiramisu on top.  Almost like a mallomar but so much better.

We had such a fun evening.  He is a super nice guy who has built an empire of restaurants under his belt.  Yet at the end of the day, he is an incredible off the charts chef.   Its a gift.

So special. So many natural, low alcohol bottles would go with this meal.
