Happy Independence Day

Today we celebrate out independence.  There are fireworks, burgers, blueberry pie and everything Americana about today.  We all get together with friends and family to eat, relax, and perhaps wear red, white and blue.  This holiday commemorates our freedom, our independence from Britain.  It is celebrated by all Americans including the melting pot of people from around the globe that have put their roots here to build their lives and families.

The country is in a state of change.  You can read, see and feel the tension between the old and the new.  We have always moved forward as a country, not backward, it is who we are as a nation.  It is part of our culture and that is what makes America, America.

I am an optimist and I believe we will get through these strange times.  I believe in, as most Americans do, in our Constitution and the checks and balances that were put in place.  Today I will be thinking about an America where there is empathy for all, where we are respectful of our fellow man, where everyone gets a solid education, has healthcare and has the opportunity to work and where we continue to lead and embrace around the globe.

Enjoy the day.  Stay off those phones.
