Hot Bread Kitchen

I was the first Chair of Hot Bread Kitchen.  It is an organization very near and dear to my heart.  There are so many things that I love about it from the product (delicious breads) to the mission (culinary training program for women facing economic insecurity) to the tagline (preserving tradition, rising expectations)to the founder (Jessamyn Rodriguez) but what I love more than anything is the long tail of this organization.

Hot Bread Kitchen trains women who have come from other places around the globe and have found themselves in NYC.  Their children are first-generation Americans.  They are seeing their Mom’s work hard to put food on the table and keep a roof over their heads.  They might not have witnessed that in the countries their Mom’s came from.  It is the impact we make on those families, those kids that really sings to me.

Someone sent me this video that was recorded for International Women’s Day this year.  I thought I’d share.  And if you are so inclined, you can make a donation or buy their delicious breads to have at your holiday table this season.
