Another great conversation. I admire the latitude of your interests & value the unscripted answers. Sweet response to “What do you do?” and I know that feeling of searching for some phrase that will shift the dialogue towards something more interesting. I used to respond to that same question with “I am volunteering my guts out” and that often gave momentum – sometimes not. Your investing in survivors theme has strength. From my coaching (nordic skiing) life we talk about “terrain being our teacher” because most can ski/live/thrive in good conditions & we should treasure what we learn from the imperfect.

Also http://pathforward.org/ (discovered via GG) has other great ways for a recovering housewife to answer that ongoing pesky question. I have been meaning to let you know that I am benefitting from their resources and activity. It is helpful to frame the complicated experiences of raising a family with adaptability & diverse skills.
