Chanel Miller is an insanely strong woman. Her memoir came out this past week and I can’t put it down. It is raw, powerful and a rare glimpse into the a victim’s suffering. Nobody every concerns themself with the victim, it is all about the person who committed the crime.
If you don’t know who Chanel Miller is, that is because she was a Jane Doe, a victim of an absolutely horrific rape by Brock Turner, a Stanford student, who left her behind a dumpster and only received a ridiculously lenient sentence for his crime.
She chose to come out from behind the shadows and make her name and her story known. We ignore those who have survived sexual assaults as they shrink from the public eye and themselves. I hope Miller’s strength and courage to write this book will give the power to others to face their perpetrators.
Nobody ever deserves to be raped and Chanel has brought that conversation into the public. Women must continue to speak up, speak loudly and push for change particularly in the case of rape.
.This is a terrible story, but as bad as it is the story of how Brock Turner got off with that sentence is worse.JLMwww.themusingsofthebigredca…
https://en.wikipedia.org/wi…”Persky graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Stanford University in 1984 with a bachelor’s degree in international relations. He was the captain of the Stanford men’s lacrosse team, a club sport. He received a master’s degree in international policy studies from Stanford in 1985..”Turner was a Stanford freshman enrolled on a swimming scholarship.
That is correct
It surprises me that Persky was appointed. The basis for the possibility of a subconscious bias was there. The extraordinarily lenient sentence as its indicator?
Judge was let go after the sentence
the lives of a basically decent although stupid ex college athlete anda very good decent and fair judge have been ruined. And Chanel Millertakes ZERO responsibility for her actions and seemingly couldn’t careless. My daughter went all through college got 4 degrees and NEVERonce got passed out drunk. She thinks Chanel Miller is a very badperson and certainly not a role model for anyone.
