Children give you the best education
There are countless wonderful things about having children. I couldn’t even begin to name all of them. Seeing the world through my children’s eyes pushes me to think differently in every aspect of my life.
Fred wrote a post a few weeks back about having kids. Someone commented that there should be a post about how start-ups are like children. It is something Fred and I have told each other many times.
Here are a few similarities such as learning to negotiate with a willful person, constant change, up days and down days, new ideas, asking why and why not, pushing buttons, joy, and frustration. The list could go on.
So why do we laugh about how raising kids is like a start-up is because when you have 3 kids growing up under one roof everyone is growing-up in their own lives. Just when you think everything is running smoothly, someone takes a left turn and needs a bit of help getting back on track.
Yet the reality is kids grow up into adults and many start-ups don’t get there. As much as we can joke about the ups and downs of start-up life, the hardest part is watching founders not get to their intended goal which could be called adulthood.
