I Am So Angry!

In the last few days of social distancing, we watched the Hillary doc on Hulu and Bombshell, one of the few movies we missed in the theater this year.
Whether you like Hillary or not, she is an incredibly brilliant woman who has been treated completely differently because she is not a man. The long tail of her taking a seat at the table that had no women at is the reason so many women are now running for office. These women who are running or are already in office were pissed that their voices were not being heard. Hillary found her voice, her career, and her path in an obviously complicated marriage relationship but she always cared about the people of this country. I believe that. Someone always has to suffer for being the first to shake things up yet she paved the way for others and for that we can all be thankful.
Then we watched Bombshell. If any of it is even remotely true, and I did follow the story when it broke on the news, then it is even more abominable that we have allowed an Australian family to essentially manipulate the American public to their financial benefit.
Roger Ailes won’t be the first but he might be the last of an era of men who did anything they wanted because they sat in a seat of power just like Harvey, Batali, Halperin, and others. It is so time.
I can’t help wondering how the hell did we get to a dystopian society with Chauncey the Gardner running the country and a bunch of self-serving narcissists who only care about their pockets (just like Fox) with zero ability to manage itself out of a paper bag? These people push perception vs reality.
Simple answer. White entitled men who have been able to use their power to make everyone else around cow-tow to their whims. Why anyone would surround themselves with this is beyond me but right now I am pissed.
We are all freaked out and feeling anxiety and wonder but be safe, be smart and look at the data. And when it does die down, give it a few months, I hope we come together as a nation and take a deep look at ourselves and vote these losers out of office. It is time for major change and we should all be very very angry.

No doubt Ailes and arew are terrible people, but I have a different view of how the media got here… Ailes realized there was a “market for news” (famous Harvard Econ paper) and the media had gone so far left (and even today), that it was a business and market opportunity to exploit. They then aligned with the GOP. In many post 2016 interviews, HRC has often brought up the fact that Democrats need to think about this kind of model because while they have the numbers, they’re getting outplayed on the field.

.Actually, it was Ted Turner who was the first to realize that the market would entertain news, 24/7 news, as a medium to draw viewers and thereby carry advertising. I hear him talk his book way back in 1980 when he was getting started. I watched an America’s Cup race from a yacht when he was falling down drunk, but could still talk his deal.Fox News didn’t show up until 1996 when Murdoch spotted the business opportunity and nabbed Roger Ailes right after he left MSNBC. Ailes was not really the guy who spotted the conservative angle. It was Murdoch.Ailes brought the programming packaging — lots of blondes and attractive opinion folks — and rode the wave of data. Ailes gets huge props for watching the data. Even today, Fox crushes its competition.Al Gore tried to duplicate Fox’s success with CurrentTV with Joel Hyatt (they had founded INdTV and made a few acquisitions promising not to become political) and using Ronald Burkle’s money plus Comcast and DirectTV.They then went “progressive” in their content. Gore, et al, tried to make a go of it from 2005-13, finally bailing and selling it to Al Jazeera America in 2014 who pitchforked the entire deal but the people and the distribution network. They just couldn’t get their act together. I did like their Keith Olbermann show, Countdown — but he wrecked it. He’d had a good run on MSNBC.I tell you all of this because I think that CNN, MSNBC, et al, are more than filling that progressive, far left niche and there is no room for more programming.Ailes was very clear that what he thought Fox had was good packaging (sexy blondes), good content, a conservative bent (which he considered to be un-severed, not under-served, un-served) plus sports and business news. That is a much bigger target market and the natural affinity between conservative views and business is obvious. The Dems do not have a consistent enough message to be able to program it. How would one ever get Bernie/AOC/far left, Joe Biden, and Bloomberg (currently posing as a Dem) under the same content tent?Gore was actually pretty close, but never was able to find his Ailes who could run the business. You grossly overstate the influence of the GOP vis a vis Fox News except for Hannity who is a part of the Trump admin.JLMwww.themusingsofthebigredca…
If any of it is even remotely trueIt is for sure remotely true. However the thing about movies (and entertainment in general) is they are specifically designed, that is engineered, to get the type of reaction they succeeded in doing with you. The biggest possible rise in emotion and a roller coaster of ‘not fair’ and so on.That said you won’t be able to win any battles if you are angry. Simply because you won’t be able to think clearly and make the right choices. You have to at least attempt to remain non-emotional in the face of the danger.
We including women have learned nothing as look at what happened with Elizabeth Warren.
“We are all freaked out and feeling anxiety” – Nope, not here. Corono.
I wonder if Harvey Weinstein’s wife knew what he was up to? I wouldn’t be at all surprised if she did, but found his status, wealth and power just too difficult to give up…until of course his behaviour became mass knowledge.
I wonder the same about Cosby’s wife.
For sure. I think it’s a very common thing, but it’s one thought too far for the politics of the movement.
It will make you more mad – but watch “The Loudest Voice in the Room” still on Showtime -way more in depth than BombShell about Roger Alias – it was a series – so I had to watch an episode and then take a break and then watch another – but it is JUST BEYOND. Roger Alias was a brilliant strategist – but used it to be an EVIL F#@! But “the Loudest Voice in the Room” really puts everything in to perspective . Margaret Sullivan wrote a great op-ed about Murdoch forcing Fox News to tell the truth right now to viewers about the virus – so depressing how brainwashed Fox has made the Trump followers – really just beyondhttps://www.washingtonpost….
I will watch but need a few days to catch my breath!
told the story in a terrifying well way.
Another one that boiled my blood was the movie *The Assistant*, which was one of the most stressful films I’ve seen of late.

Yes. Me too!May history show that this was the week that more than one narcissistic white man went down. In the meantime, I’m wearing my Lady Rage tshirt, via my friend Kate’s etsy business. (They run a bit snug, order up a size for a looser fit.) https://www.etsy.com/listin…
so good!

President definitely righted any of the wrongs of the other night and weeks prior with what was said today. If you missed it makes sure you watch the entire video and how the situation is being handled both with unique private sector help (testing in Walmart parking lots) and reduction of government regulations (that would typically slow down things). First person to talk (after Trump) was a woman. The white men did a good job as well.https://www.youtube.com/wat…Try to focus on the positive and upside going forward, not fester more anger over wanting to blame someone that you might hate for other reasons.Separately and hope this is obvious not all white men are entitled and have been able to use their power for bad things, just like not all people of any group are responsible for the wrongs of some of their members. I think it’s a big mistake to constantly call out ‘white men’ as if as a group the majority or most are bad.Edit: In the video below you need to click back to the start…
Plenty of amazing white men.
This is the news conference from the beginning I don’t think the link I posted is correct for that:https://www.c-span.org/vide…
.It’s pretty damn hard to take this seriously when the Dem nominee is going to be a 77-year-old fossil who had been in DC for half a century and who appears to be a borderline or better dementia victim. What happened to new ideas, passing the baton, diversity, and adventure? All of the women candidates were squashed, the persons of color were pushed aside, the dwarfs were cast asunder, and we are left with two ancient men who have essentially done nothing but politics for their entire careers. And, not well.Bernie is one more heart attack from the funeral home, while Joe is about ready for the nursing home.It would be funny if it wasn’t such a wholesale indictment of the Dem phony posturing as to ideas, age, diversity, and “change.”How does one keep a straight face sending a 77-year old career politician with no private sector experience to clean up a mess that he spent 50 years creating?Right now the world is watching Joe Biden rise from the ashes — he was written off for dead a month ago — but there was a reason he was in the ashes to start with. The former Bernie folk will likely sit this one out.So, yeah, the Dems are the party of ideas, the young folk, diversity, change, and all the good stuff — just not their candidate.Do I have that wrong?JLMwww.themusingsofthebigredca…
YES! As always when it comes to our current political mess.
Watch the response to Bombshell, Megyn Kelley and other women who lived it. https://youtu.be/MmSz7HqkI9s
Thanks for sending. Really good
I’m starting to get a little bit angry myself, at the way you and this indiscriminate ‘movement’ keeps tarring white males with the same brush, as if we are all the same. Please stop it, or at least add the caveat that you accept that it is a minority of white males that behave in this way (unless you believe that by definition all white males have this behavioural trait encoded in their genes?). It’s no better than racism and sexism.
You can feel anything about her?
all I know is liberals are leading the panic at the grocery store. Oat milk sales are up over 300% and fake meat sales are up over 120%. If conservatives were leading the panic, we’d be out of bacon, bourbon and ammo. : )
?
Hey, that’s not a nice thing to say about Chauncey Gardener 😉
