John Lennon and Yoko Ono

Everyone has their “favorite” Beatle. Ours was John. Fred and I went to a costume party dressed as John and Yoko in October 2016
We watched “One to One: John & Yoko” this past weekend, a documentary focused on 1972, when the couple moved to NYC. There is so much to love and learn from this film. John and Yoko were passionate about underserved and marginalized communities, and worked on awareness of certain events with their voices and music.
The documentary also highlights what was happening in America at that time: the Attica Prison riot, Kent State, Watergate, sexist advertising, particularly regarding Tupperware, and, of course, the TV shows of that era, like The Waltons and the horrific conditions at the Willowbrook State School. The music is in between the clips of that time period, and he was so good.
What hits home is how controlling and corrupt the Nixon administration was about everything. Not only Watergate, but also cannabis, information, manipulation, and how the public believed it. The similarities to Trump and what is happening in America now reminded me how history repeats itself, not the same, but similar, and how eventually we will get through this, too.
