Who Do You Trust for Information?

Last week, we were out in LA for a wedding. I can’t remember the last time we were in LA during the summer. The weather was amazing.
LA has faced a tough year, from the fires to ICE and then the tsunami. We began to assess the reality of the situation to determine if we needed to evacuate to higher ground. We are in Venice.
I started to scroll for information, and of course, asked Chat GPT what levels of a tsunami we should be concerned about. It turns out that there are ample studies done by organizations, mainly by the government, that have been done to figure out exactly what could happen based on the seriousness of the storm.
One of the sites I found was a US government tsunami weather site. In the past, that would have been top of my trusted resources, but today, because of the unprecedented destruction of the federal government, I don’t trust the source. Think about that, I do not trust the source of the USA’s tsunami site. I wasn’t sure who to trust.
The media creates a brouhaha and slants everything; don’t trust them. The government agencies have been destroyed; don’t trust them. I went to several sources, cross-referenced, and ultimately, decided that we would be fine.
But in the end, I wonder how we got to this point where I have to ask myself….who do I trust?
