Summer ends and Autumn begins

As summer winds down, I always get excited about the start of autumn, which feels like the beginning of a new year. Our elevator has been out of order since July 1st, so we stayed out east and used Zoom instead of walking up and down eight flights of stairs daily. I miss being in the office, visiting the Gotham stores, and having face-to-face conversations with the team. I am a fan of being able to work from anywhere (as I do), but the intimacy of being in person makes such a big difference.
The last three years of building Gotham have been an absolute whirlwind. There are countless stories to tell, from the instability of the start-up mentality to the incredible achievements we have made. We are now entering the next phase, characterized by more structure, more data, and less freneticism. We have a fantastic team that allows me to be out of the weeds (no pun intended) and think at a different level. A win for sure.
I plan to spend more time with the Fund, going out and meeting more of our partners and the people we impact. I am also working on a docuseries, although to me, that is more of a crap shoot. I hope it happens, but like all industries, change is happening, and it is unclear to me what films, shows, and content will be created for financial purposes or cultural aims. I hope there continues to be a balance.
The world at large can feel overwhelming, but I want to ignore the white noise (and there is plenty of it) with the belief that this, too, will end, as everything is cyclical, and reading history gives me some level of comfort in looking back on other insane political decisions.
Regardless, I have bought a few theater tickets, made some reservations at new restaurants, and have a list of art shows I want to see in museums and galleries, as well as new stores to explore. We are taking a few trips this fall, too. I might be older and perhaps wiser, but I am still a Gotham Gal at heart, which is why I can’t help but get excited about returning to the city with a properly functioning elevator.
