Target Is Selling Hemp Based Drinks

I can walk into a Target and buy a hemp-based drink that has some THC in it, but not enough to be regulated by the state; instead, it is mostly CBD. The same goes for CBD products sitting on the shelves of Walmart and Whole Foods. Yet, Gotham gets hassled from selling CBD products, needing certain licenses, and most of the banks of credit transaction companies do not want to deal with CBD. I guess if you are big enough, it doesn’t matter.

We follow the law when it comes to selling cannabis products, but many don’t. They might have passed a bunch of laws at the NYS level, but the oversight is grim and makes zero sense.

Now of course Bacardi and Moet are getting into the hemp beverage game, and why wouldn’t they? The evidence is clearly there that less people are drinking and taking pharma drugs when there is access to legal cannabis. The issue here is that that the hemp beverages have zero oversight. We can’t sell them in at Gotham, although we are selling amazing drinks from our farmers with higher levels of THC in them that is approved by the state. Looks like Jack Daniels is jumping in too. When alcohol sales go down, what do you do to keep market share??

Something is fitting that Mitch McConnell opened this door without realizing what he was doing. His attempt to help his tobacco farmers backfired. What he has done is create an industry that needs zero approval to sell in any state. Similar to the beauty industry, there is no regulation on what goes into the products.

The senators of the states that are legally selling recreational products should be vocal about this. It is taking away from the legal market that creates taxes for the state. Gotham and all the other dispensaries are competing against an illegal market (probably 85% of the products sold in the state), and now we have to compete against the hemp market. Senators, please help us help the state’s balance sheet.
