Jonathan Tropper: This is Where I Leave You
This is my second book by Jonathan Tropper, the first was Book of Joe which I liked. This is Where I Leave You made me laugh out loud.
A story of a Jewish family that comes together to sit shiva for seven days after the passing of their father. The story is told through the eyes of one of the brothers whose wife is having an affair with his boss. Each kid, actually adult, has their share of baggage that has accumulated over time. Their relationships, the dry color commentary between each of them, trying to make it through seven days together as fully grown adults with their extended families in tow, the neighbors, the shrink mother, etc.
Spending seven days together gives everyone time to mend their own relationships. It is bittersweet, laugh-out loud hilarious, emotional, and a great peek into what goes on behind other peoples closed doors. I could read some of the scenes again and again and still roar.
