Lolly Daskal, Lead from Within, Podcast

Lolly Daskal, sought-after executive leadership coach and founder & CEO of Lead from Within, sat down with me this week to talk about her unconventional path to a sustainable career as ‘the navigator’ for some of the world’s biggest CEO’s. Lolly’s independent spirit led her to break out on her own at a young age, and it’s that same boldness that informs her ability to empower others in their business leadership. She has some great insights that are sure to be useful for everyone.

Thanks for sharing and now I’ve added 3 books to my list. This w/e, I met a guy who’d been part of Skype and he suggested ‘The Origins of Complex Language’ so I have that and Albert Wenger’s ‘World After Capital’ to exercise my gray cells with.Paul Auster! Hurrah! So happy I dived into his work as a teenager! The Victor Frankel quote seems to be in the veins of Confucius: https://uploads.disquscdn.c…To change the action steps, we have to change ourselves. The question is: “What does it take to integrate all seven archetypes coherently?”

      great question..

I tend to believe we’re all seven archetypes (and maybe also their dualities). We prioritize and do them at different times, according to situational context.* The Rebel, driven by confidence; and the Imposter, plagued by self-doubt.* The Explorer, fueled by intuition; and the Exploiter, master of manipulation.* The Truth Teller, embraces candor; and her twin, the Deceiver, who creates suspicion.* The Hero, embodies courage; and the Bystander, a coward if there ever was one.* The Inventor, brimming with integrity; and the Destroyer, is morally corrupt.* The Navigator, trusts and is trusted; and the Fixer, endlessly arrogant.* The Knight, for whom loyalty is everything; and the Mercenary, who is perpetually self-serving.In a way it’s like de Bono’s ideas of us wearing 6 different hats, as and when needed.

I was also thinking in terms of Lolly saying that after thousands of interactions with senior-level people she can pattern recognize common concerns such as “loyalty, trust etc”. This w/e I was at a “Learning AI” workshop (male:female was 175:5) and we covered how Natural Language Processing works. It’s something like this type of statistical matrix:https://uploads.disquscdn.chttps://uploads.disquscdn.c…So if Lolly interviews 100 folks that would be 100 blocks of data. Now, Natural Language UNDERSTANDING is something that hasn’t been solved yet. The statistical pattern recognition is what exists in Natural Language Processing and these methods are borrowed from psychology and cognitive sciences circa 1950s.Anyway, that’s what I’m taking on. Breaking us out of the Matrix! Lol.
