Why Is Technology Still so Frustrating?

I think of myself as ahead of the curve when it comes to technology. Yet every time we return to LA, the entire system requires a reboot. Some companies build amazing seamless easy to use technology, but many companies don’t. Frustration is an understatement.

I always wonder about people who grew up with lights that turned on with a single switch and a TV with a simple dial for the channels. After this past week, my empathy for them has risen even higher.

I spent hours reprogramming the TV with very spotty Internet. Of course, that needed to be rebooted too. Our car couldn’t connect to the Wifi to update the latest apps such as navigation. I ended up sitting in a Starbucks parking lot connecting to their wifi and hot-spotting it from my phone to the car. I finally got the app downloaded, but it wouldn’t complete the process. Hours that I will never get back. If you are curious, of course, I got an email from Starbucks within hours.

We got a new car, but I couldn’t figure out how to program it to open and shut the garbage. So we have a new Chevy Bolt that can’t leave the house because it can’t get back into the driveway.

Bottom line, when I am deep in REM, these products should upgrade with ease with the technology available today. So when I wake up in the morning, smelling the aroma of my coffee, everything should work just perfectly.
