Texas, Need I Say More?

Yesterday Texas passed an abortion law that is the most restrictive in the country, even though over 61% of Americans support Roe vs. Wade. 77% of Americans believe that we should uphold the law.

What happened yesterday has been in the makings for years. What is shocking is that the Supreme Court ignored it. There will be lawsuits, protests, and everything else between spending ridiculous amounts of money to turn the law over when it should have never happened in the first place.

The reality is that people of means will always be able to get an abortion that includes every wife, mistress, and daughter of the men who pushed through this law. It is the control over poor women’s bodies to keep them in poverty. Wouldn’t that make more sense if money was spent on sex education, free birth control, and free contraception? When I see women in poverty with 7 children in tow, all I can think of is that the circle of poverty continues. In Texas, it is only going to get worse.

A woman should have the right to control her own body, period. Nobody wants to be told to wear a mask or take a vaccination, but is it ok to tell women what to do with their own bodies? Is that state of Texas going to take care of all these human beings when they are born? The authors of this new abortion bill are a bunch of white men. Not shocking. Maybe they should all be given mandated vasectomies unless they pass a particular IQ test. Are we becoming a dictatorial regime using poor women’s bodies?

This is such a step backward as a country. The Republican’s contempt for women is so clear. I do not understand how any woman could support that party. This is all about politics and making their base happy; that is the sector of their base with deep pockets to support their campaigns. As women become more powerful, the fear from these men who passed this law is so obvious.

I am so angry. If men got pregnant, you know this would never happen. Enough is enough. This is a war on women, and it has to stop.
