Happy New Year from the Fund! 2023 was a year of significant milestones for the Public Housing Community Fund! As we bid farewell to an extraordinary year, we are thrilled to share the monumental strides we have made together. Your unwavering support has propelled us to new heights, with a record-breaking $8 million in revenue secured for NYCHA residents and our communities. This landmark achievement reflects not just our collective commitment but also the boundless potential of NYCHA neighborhoods – where families, older adults, and young individuals vibrantly contribute to the fabric of New York City. A Banner Year for NYCHA and BeyondWe unveiled our new brand identity early in the year, symbolizing our renewed dedication to building a stronger, more equitable New York City. Our innovative leadership development programs took flight, empowering NYCHA residents with skills and opportunities to lead and excel. We celebrated the achievements of our NYCHA graduates – the first and second cohorts from the NYCHA Clean Energy Academy, NYCHA Housing Career Pathways, NYCHA Swim Safety Corps, the NYCHA-NYU Real Estate Scholars, NYCHA ARCscholars, and the NYCHA Youth Tech Corps. Hundreds of residents from across the city joined us in the first-ever citywide participatory budgeting process, The People’s Money, working together to identify problems in the community and program ideas to help solve them. Additionally, in partnership with NYCHA, we awarded a record 79 scholarships through the NYCHA-CUNY Scholarship Program, a significant investment in the future of our residents, more than doubling the number of scholarships awarded over the past two years. These programs are a testament to the incredible talent and potential within NYCHA communities. Open Space and Art InvestmentsThis year, we secured millions of dollars to enhance NYCHA open spaces, art, and community center programming. Our Green Space Connections program is impacting over 14,000 residents in four NYCHA communities, and this summer, we unveiled a new mural as part of the initiative, with green space transformation projects expected to begin in spring 2024. This year’s notable highlight was transforming a 20,000-square-foot open space at Harborview Terrace Houses, a beacon of community pride and engagement, with murals, asphalt art, a new basketball and pickleball court, and community gathering spaces. Together for NYCHA: Our 2024 Vision As we look to 2024 and beyond, our mission remains as vital as ever. We aim to raise $100,000 through our annual campaign, Together for NYCHA, to support leadership development, community health, and workforce training. Please make a year-end donation to help us continue our work. Every dollar donated goes directly towards empowering NYCHA residents with the tools and resources they need for success. Your generosity is a lifeline for over 500,000 residents across all five boroughs, providing higher education, career opportunities, health and wellness programs, and fostering community engagement and empowerment. A Profound Impact on the Community. Your support extends beyond buildings and infrastructure; it touches lives. Remember, 50% of NYCHA residents live below the poverty line. Your contributions have a direct and transformative impact on 1 in every 17 New Yorkers, funding essential programs and improvements within NYCHA, exclusively for its residents. As we enter the New Year, we extend our deepest gratitude to you – our donors, nonprofit and governmental partners, and the dynamic NYCHA resident leaders. Your support and collaboration are the cornerstones of our success. Together, we are not just changing landscapes but building futures and empowering communities. Wishing you a Happy New Year filled with hope, joy, and continued collaboration.
