Tastes Like War – An incredible memoir understanding the long-lasting horrors of immigration life that people are finally talking about as their children look through the lens of their parent’s life. Powerful read.
The Last White Man – I enjoyed Mohsin Hamid’s book Exit West, so I was looking forward to reading The Last White Man. This book is more of a one-dimensional concept intertwined with family. Conceptually an interesting idea and left me wanting much more.
Mouth to Mouth – A slow and then fast pace into the art world. Great summer read!
Remarkably Bright Creatures – Remarkably Bright Creatures is about love, love lost, loneliness, friendship, and a particular friendship with an octopus. Another summer win.
The It Girl – Great murder mystery centered in Oxford. Stayed up super late to finish!
Normal Family: On Truth, Love, and How I Met My 35 Siblings – I Loved this book and could not put it down. See my post here
The Poet X – Brilliant first novel about growing up as a young girl/woman in Spanish Harlem. The entire book is written in poetic prose, almost like rap. Genius!
Corrections in Ink – An incredibly powerful memoir on addiction, jail, and self-reflection.
Severence – Couldn’t put it down. What if Covid had been truly the end of society? What would it look like? Great read. Extremely well-written.
The Twilight World – Incredibly well-written quick read about a Japanese soldier who defended a Philippine island for almost 30 years never realizing WWII was over.
Zabar’s: A Family Story, with Recipes – I loved this book. The history of the family with plenty of NY stories too. Also, the evolution of their store. Many could take a lesson from the Zabar family and how they have managed to survive all these years.
This Time Tomorrow – First book of the summer reads. I hope they are all as entertaining. I couldn’t put it down.
